Audit

To us an audit is much more than just numbers, it is ensuring strong foundations for the future.

Our audit practice is led by a dedicated team of partners, managers, and professional staff. All of our team are professionally qualified or studying towards qualifications and are well-equipped to identify risks and help to mitigate these.

Our aim is to deliver a high-quality independent audit that shareholders and other stakeholders can rely on.

We specialise in the audit of family, owner-managed, and other private businesses across most sectors. Our dedicated audit team consists of two partners (who are our responsible individuals), a partner designate, a manager group, and other dedicated members of staff. All of the JS team are professionally qualified or studying for professional qualifications. We provide comprehensive training to use our industry-standard audit software and apply the Auditing Standards. As well as traditional substantive and controls testing, we use the TeamMate data analytics tool for sample selection, whole population review, and to aid fraud detection. Our digital portal, OneClick, ensures secure transfer of client files and data.

We commit to investing significant time to understand your business. We will then use our sector knowledge and team expertise to develop a robust audit strategy. In addition to statutory audit, we also provide a wide range of other assurance services and reporting.

Our Audit Services

Statutory Audit

Our capable, skilled team will get to know your business so that we can design an appropriate risk-based audit approach. Management challenge and professional scepticism are built into every assignment. We are confident that this approach will deliver a well-documented, effective and robust audit. Our methodology is based on substantive testing supplemented by reliance on controls operating within the business and data analytic techniques where appropriate.

Financial Reporting

We integrate the preparation of the statutory financial statements into the audit timetable, to avoid wasting management time or duplicating information requests.

We also have the technical skills and experience to advise on a wide range of financial reporting issues, such as:

  • Changes to UK GAAP (FRS 102 and 105)
  • Application of International Financial Reporting Standards and UK adopted International Accounting Standards
  • Accounting Standards
  • Preparation of group financial statements
  • Companies Act 2006 accounting requirements
  • Companies House regulations

Group Reporting

We have a one-stop solution for overseas groups looking for a UK firm to provide professional services to their UK subsidiaries. As well as advising on audit, reporting and filing requirements in the UK, our annual compliance team can deliver management information, business tax and transaction processing support.

Other Assurance Services

We have a wide range of experience in delivering other assurance services and reports, including:

  • Grant claim audits
  • Independent examination reports for charities
  • Governance reports
  • Teachers’ Pension Scheme audits, academy accounts return submissions, and regularity audits
  • Systems and controls review reports
  • Solicitors Accounts Rules audits
  • Specialist Companies Act reports, covering transactions such as company buy-back of shares, redemption of shares, and re-registration from a limited company to PLC.
